Things to Do
WALKING - The Torridon Mountains, with several peaks over 3000 feet, are nearby. Both houses are well supplied with maps and walking guides and these can be obtained locally.
Peter Barton's book - "Torridon - A Walker's Guide" ISBN - 13: 9781852940228 is particularly useful.
The Torridon Ranger Service take guided walks in July and August and there are several local guides including Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures

The weather can change suddenly in the mountains and it is essential that you are properly equipped.
BOAT TRIPS
Torridon Sailing tours do trips from Shieldaig on a yacht.
Several operators do boat trips from Gairloch harbour
BOATING
Boats can be launched from the pier on the Corran. Our end of the loch is well suited to canoeing. Kayaks and canoes can be hired from the Wee Kayak Shack opposite us on the pier. Sea kayaking courses are run by The Torridon, Shieldaig Outdoor Adventure or from Mountain and Sea Guides in Applecross.

GOLF
There are nine hole golf courses at Lochcarron and Gairloch
TENNIS
There is an all weather sports court in Shieldaig which can be hired by the hour. Bring your own tennis rackets.
BEACHES
The beach at Shieldaig is stony so plastic shoes are useful.
There are lovely sandy beaches at :
Gairloch - the main beach is easily reached from the car park near the Golf Club. The excellent beach at Big Sand is accessed through the campsite there for payment of a small parking fee.
Sand - on the Applecross coast road.
Cuaig - beautiful secluded beach also off the Applecross coast road down a muddy path. Wellies advised.
CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND
This has been recently refurbished with seating ares for adults
NATURAL HISTORY
Wildlife is all around - Red Deer, Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles, Seals and Otters are often seen. Pine Martens are fairly common but shy creatures and the Red squirrel has recently been re-introduced.
The Torridon Countryside Centre has a lot of local information and is attached to the Deer Museum and Deer Enclosure.
The Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve has a visitor centre just outside Kinlochewe on the Gairloch road.
The Shieldaig Sea Trout Project visitor centre is a short walk from the Corran.
OTHER LOCAL EVENTS
These are usually advertised on the noticeboard near the shop and on the Visit Torridon website
Concerts, quizzes and ceilidh are held regularly and visitors are always welcome. Many events are held at Loch Torridon Community Centre.
